In 2009, France was the 3rd leading recipient of FDI in the world, and the 1st in Europe, receiving US $65 billion of inflows (UNCTAD, February, 2010). As such, France was the leading destination for FDI in Europe, with a market share of 23.3% compared with 18.2% in 2007.

France is one of the most dynamic countries in the world in terms of research and development (R&D). With a high concentration of well-qualified R&D personnel, excellent public research bodies, and a large number of new patents filed each year, France has decisive advantages in this respect.

Foreign investment in France is free of any administrative restrictions. Investors are able to buy or rent property, acquire French companies or create their own legal entity, without having to invest a minimum amount or create a minimum number of jobs.

The Invest in France Agency (IFA) is responsible for promoting, prospecting and facilitating international investment in France, and for the economic attractiveness and image of the country. The IFA network operates on an international, national and regional basis. The agency works in close partnership with regional development agencies to offer international investors outstanding business opportunities and customized services.
